Becoming a Sports Agent: 3 Ways to Get Your Foot in the Door by Mike Giuffrida

Aspiring sports agent Mike Giuffrida knows that finding an edge over other applicants when the time comes for him to join the professional arena will play a huge role in his career. This is why he wastes no time on pointless pursuits, as he’d like to call it. He knows that whatever positive points he can put on his resume will help him get one foot in the door.

Below are the key areas that he’s currently working on:

Internships

Any college student knows that internships are one of the best ways to join the field of your choice and be hired as a professional, full-time employee when the time comes. Nowadays, you can find Mike Giuffrida on the internet looking for sports agencies that are open to internships. He’s also busy networking through his school’s organizations, joining and organizing events, and basically, just putting himself out there.

Part-time work

Mike Giuffrida is also working part-time at a pizza joint near the university. While he knows that this part-time job is nowhere near the career he wants to pursue, he believes that any job that you can be successful at will be a plus point on your resume. For one, it proves that you can work for someone and be good at it; and secondly, it proves that you are someone willing to learn and do whatever it takes to earn a good living.

Mike’s advice: When you’re writing your resume, try to relate the tasks that you’ve done to the job that you’re applying for.

Hone soft skills

In any job, soft skills are just as important as technical skills, maybe even more. Sports agents need to have good communication and analytical skills, organizational skills, writing skills, and time management. How do you hone soft skills? Like what Mike Giuffrida mentioned above, he’s joined several organizations at his school, and he’s organized quite a few events for these. Organizing an event already touches on all of the soft skills mentioned here: communication, organizational, writing, and time management.

Mike Giuffrida will share more posts about becoming a sports agents in the coming days so kindly stay tuned.
